This year Saint Ann’s will again participate in the Brooklyn in Solidarity event with a number of other Brooklyn Independent Schools. While last year’s topic was Immigrants and Refugees this year’s theme will be Gun Control, a very strong shared sentiment from students at all the schools. The event this year is titled: Brooklyn in Solidarity: A Movement for Safety and Justice in all Communities. We want to extend the theme beyond only school shooting and create a larger view that looks at multiple intersections around issues with gun violence, power, privilege, and politics.
The #BKSolid event will take place on May 9th, 5-7pm at Brooklyn Friends High School at 116 Lawrence Street. There will be panel discussions, break-out arts sessions, representatives from several local advocacy organizations, including Youth Organizing to Save Our Streets (YO S.O.S.), Moms Demand Action, Theater of the Oppressed, and the ACLU. And of course there will be pizza, too.
If you are interested in attending, a group will leave here from the Bosworth Lobby at 4:20 next Wednesday, May 9th. We will walk back here when it ends.
Looking forward to hearing back from you soon.
